Dog Food Recipes
If you’re looking for some natural dog food recipes or homemade dog food, this recipe from the Natural Pet Food Cookbook is a great start.
Chef Jason Hill of Chef Tips puts Bandit’s Beef Stew to the test, and this dog food recipe was approved with enthusiasm by his family’s Shih Tzu puppy, Sugar.
This recipe can be prepared as an organic dog food with the right ingredients. Just choose canned organic vegetables when preparing this meal. It’s also a human grade dog food, as Chef Jason Hill attests — and not bad, either!
Using natural organic dog food ingredients, this special treat makes a great alternative to dry dog food such as Nutro Dog Food, Innova Dog Food, Canidae Dog Food and Pedigree Dog Food.
It’s a gourmet dog food your pet will enjoy time and time again.

Our Sugar is almost 10 months old. She is such a good dog! She cracks up us with her bold attitude.
Rice isn’t good for …
Rice isn’t good for dogs either. These are descendants of wolves, people – they do not chew food! As Lumiesoul wrote, the problem with why pets don’t make it as long as tget could is mostly the diet, especially those poor cats fed anything but meat.
This recipe isn’t …
This recipe isn’t meant to be fed to a dog every day; it’s just a treat. Also, folks can certainly omit the corn all together or replace it with cooked rice. Thanks for your comment.
There’s a lot of …
There’s a lot of quacks out there who want to desperately believe their cute doggies are not carnivores despite everything about their physical anatomy clearly showing they are. As a vegan, I have encountered tons of them. I’m sure this book of recipes and the vet who approved them would fall under this category, but he (the poster) is just following it. Feeding your pet this recipe too often would almost certainly guarantee problems with their pancreas by the time they get old.

Dogs and cats (not …
Dogs and cats (not just small dogs) live well past their twenties, bu lack of nutrition by poor dog food companies makes it hard for them to get in their teens. If you want to keep your pet alive either use homemade meals, carefully balanced for good nutrition & with good ingredients or use Harmony Farms (17.5 ibs for about 19$-22$), Blue Buffalo, Halo, The honest Kitchen. Why would you put …
Why would you put corn in it? Corn is incredibly hard for dogs to digest and what can be digested is a high carb low nutrient filler.
The rest of the recipe looks good though, I might substitute the corn for brown rice and try it myself.

I have to use chicken insted of ground beef for my dogs diet. What can I use to replace the tomatoe sauce? He is on a special diet and the sauce does not “agree” with him.
Hiya Jason I made …
Hiya Jason I made some dog food this evening for our 2 dogs. Used ground turkey, freshly grated carrots, chopped fresh garlic, a can of low sodium tomatoe soup, wheat germ and a small amount of broken up spagetti…let it bubbble for awhile and boy did both dogs gobble it up. Although its not even close to your recipe I want you to know that you inspired me to make their food from scratch. Many thanks ! Shine on Jason !
I love this recipe …
I love this recipe for the homemade dog food I agree about not giving corn to the dogs – though that is often a significant ingred in dry dog foods I will omit the corn & use low sodium canned tomatoe soup. Will have to make this up in a big supply as I have a 115 lb Bernese Mountain Dog & a white Shepherd mix female. Both as rescue dogs & both were emaciated at the time of rescue but are healthy happy awsome canines now. Thanks for sharing this recipe & your wonderful Bandit with us Jason !
