Han Guuk Guan – Korean and Chinese Food

Han Guuk Guan is a medium sized Korean and Chinese Restaurant located 13a Victoria Street in Melbourne (1st May 2008).The cuisine is both authentic Korean and Szechuan Chinese. It is suited for office workers, students and families.

Service Quality
Service was friendly with our waiter speaking broken English, all very polite very time we have been there. The menu is large and on our first visit took some time to go through, there is a specials menu, a lunch special and the main which is a combination of authentic Korean and Chinese. After several visits I had settled on the # 94 from the main menu, a pork and vegetables dish (can be mild or hot) we chose 1 mild and 1 hot to sample. The mains come with a selection of Korean standard pickled and other delicacies.

Service Speed
Service was generally speedy. The meals and accompanying condiments took 7 minutes.

Food Quality
Mild pork and vegies had a good level of heat, serving is quite large. The hot pork is for those that like the heat in there meal (quite hot 4 chillies+) flavours are still good even with the heat. The accompanying condiments are what I really enjoy, theres the very hot pickled cabbage, silky cold Aloe Vera gel, pickled bean shoots, sugar potatoes and if your really lucky the picked horse radish.
Rating: 8/10
Ambience
Very contempory Korean influences, if you go upstairs theres a big screen television with some Korean program on, the restaurant is open and airy very welcoming. If you have a large group they have BBQ’s built into the tables to self cook.
Rating: 7/10
Value for Money
If you are looking for authentic Korean and Chinese you will do good going here, there is the one thing that you notice at lunch or dinner the restaurant is full of a good mix of Korean and Chinese patrons. This to me is a sign of a really good authentic restaurant.

We had the worst service from the waiters tonight (14 Jan09). He refused to serve us 1 bowl per person for soup. He asked us to share between 2. He is very bad temper, not willing to provide enough utensils. WIth his poor English, we did not manage to get the minimum service require. The worst part is he threw the dishes on the next table when he clean our table, made grumbling noise in front of us and asked us to keep quiet when we sing a song to celebrate our friend’s birthday. The service is pathetic and rude.

I was told that the food is good. However, no matter how good the food is, we will never go back. It’s my first time and will be thte last.

    Bec,
I am sorry to hear you had such a bad experience at the Han Guuk Guan, I have been there on more than 10 occasions now and surprised at this type of service. Thank you for letting us know and we will definitely get back there to see what’s going on. Your feedback is what makes our reviews work, we really appreciate you putting in the time to let us know the good and the not so good experiences you have after making the effort to firstly read our reviews but also go to the restaurant yourself. I only hope that you have better luck at some of the other places we have been to.

    Regards,

    Justin
