My Secret Iced Tea Recipe Revealed!

Published by sbutineau at 2:11 pm under Beverages, Tea

I’ve been told my recipe was even better then the Nestea… So do I give away my deep and most treasured recipe to share with the world? Would I be able to make my millions with my secret? Should I or should I not that is the question… After all the summer is still in full swing it could still be enjoyed by many. Stay tuned for another episode of the soap opera ”As the stomach turns” just kidding. I like to share so here it is, the hardest thing you will ever have to make in your career as a cook… just kidding again:

My recipe for Iced Tea Syrop:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 4 cups of sugar
  • 8 teabags the 2cup size
  • (I use Tetleys orange pekoe or English breakfast tea)

If you prefer to make Iced Peppermint Tea add 1 cup of fresh crushed mint leaves.

Low-cal version: Replace sugar with equal amount of splenda. My friend who is a diabetic makes the syrop with Stevia extract. She uses 2ozs per recipe. (the recipes made with both either Splenda and Stevia are runnier not quite “syrop”) The recipe can also be made up with a combination of sugar and sweeterners.

Methodology:

  • Combine all ingredients in a large sauce pan
  • Gently stir (you don’t want the teabags to blow-up) until sugar has melted
  • Bring to a rolling boil
  • Turn down heat and let steep for 3-4 minutes
  • Remove from heat
  • Discard teabags after gently (that’s the keyword) squisshing out extra syrop between two spoons
  • Pour into clean heated mason jar (syrop will last for months and months better said could last that long but I usually have to make them weekly, I usually have both types of syrop in my fridge all summer)

To make Iced tea:

I use 2 osz of syrop in a pitcher of water (naturally depending on taste you can ad more or less you need to play with your first pitcher till you get the right taste for you)

add the juice of one lemon or 2 ozs of bottled juice.  Serve on ice with a wedge of lemon. Lemon can also be replaced with lime.

For the adult version of iced tea add a shot of Countreau, Vodka or Gin and serve in a tall glass.

Follow same to make up Iced Peppermint Tea omiting the lemon and serving it on ice with a spring or two of fresh mint.

For the adult version of Iced Mint Tea add a shot of Peppermint Schnapps or liquoer and serve over ice in a tall glass.

It is only 9:37 AM here now… if you could tell me that it’s after 5:00 Pm somewhere else in the world,  I wouldn’t mind going by their clock just until I finish one of these “minty delights”

Hope you try it… enjoy

Wow! This sounds great! I’m decaffeinated so I suppose I could do this with the decaf bags & it work out just the same, right? I love sun tea and using mint in the tea during summer, I have all kinds of mint in my garden for that! Great one!

Michelle! The syrup will work just fine with decaf tea. A friend of mine makes it all the time for herself.
The mint tea syrup is also great hot in the winter.
    regards Suzanne
