What’s the Deal with Organic Foods? Part 1

Published by at 2:43 pm under organic

Nutrition by Natalie

What is the difference between organic food and conventional food? Is organic really more healthy for you?

The USDA lays out certain guidelines that farms have to follow in order to be able to claim the food is organic. In this video Natalie discusses what each of those guidelines are.

What is surprising to learn is some of the growing practices of conventional farming and food processing. As an example, chemical plants and waste water treatment facilities will actually sell their toxic waist to conventional farms to use for fertilizer.

What you eat is an important part of health and nutrition.

chromium also helps curb carb cravings.

    But isn’t chromium …
But isn’t chromium good for you? I’ve heard that chromium in apple skins can help fight diabetes!

    I think they should …
I think they should sell Organically Grown, Genetically Modified foods. Genetically Modified foods can help us, but if I can’t buy GM foods without buying a product that is treated with pesticides or all these other poisons, then I have to not buy them at all.

I know she did not …
I know she did not say it directly but, she did lead-on that food exposed to radiation is bad for us because it exposes us to the radiation. In reality, no matter how much of a radiation dose something receives, 1 rem or 10^50 rem, it does not give any dose at all to someone after the fact. The fact about decreasing nutrition may be true, but not the second part that she leads-on.

    Her argument may be …
Her argument may be true or untrue, but she is supporting it with very loose and at one point seemingly incorrect information. All her argument were about how these things can hurt u, but that is really only a poor reason. A good reason to not want fertilizers on your food is because the environmental effects the production and transportation of these fertilizers have on the environment, and in the long term, as ppl are starting to realize, on us.

    What would happen …
What would happen within the animal kingdom if all humans became vegetarians or vegans? Certain animals such as cows would end up being butchered before being eaten by predators, and certain animals would multiply to an extent that we would be forced to hunt and shoot them in order tp protect ouselves and our livelyhoods as well as to prevent destruction of certain areas in the biosphere.

    What about High …
What about High Fructose corn syrup? Is it bad for the human body and can it be proven to be safe like all the television commercials have America believing. I feel that it is man made and hard for the body to digest. Is it addictive does it cause health concerns over time, can it be proven that High Fructose corn syrup is safe. Why would most heath food stores carry products listed in bold “No High Fructose Corn Syrup” if it wasn’t a threat?

    you’re constantly …
you’re constantly coming on here knocking down people, what do you work for the gov or you just a closed-minded stick up the butt?
MAYBE it wasn’t placebo but the fact she was especially sensitive to these horrible chemicals?

  19. dustinrubberson 12 Dec 2008 at 2:43 pm

If you work or know …
If you work or know someone who works in the FDA, you would know what you said is totally BS that is fed to the masses so corporations stay rich AND you keep taking the ant poison so they can keep you in control and die just before being a burden to Social Security.

    It’s funny how …
It’s funny how anyone that doesn’t buy into organic food works for Monsanto. There is no one like whole foods or organic farmers that would need to distort the facts toward organic food. Even Natalie, who I guess is a nutritionist, would profit from people needing to learn about organic food and newer nutritional ideas. Really QUESTION EVERYTHING. Crap now I work for Monsanto :(

  23. disagreeableneutrinoon 12 Dec 2008 at 2:43 pm

    There are NO animal …
There are NO animal plant hybrids in the food supply. Some have been made in the lab for basic research, but never for food and always within a sealed greenhouse. That kind of frankenfood is a myth. The only GMC you get are plant hybrids or selected gene alterations.
